Hydrogen/electric is the future. The latest (2010) Honda Clarity points to the future, as does their new home hydrogen station.
Many countries are prepared, making "Hydrogen highways" so that hydrogen filling stations are spread all along the main roads. The answer came with Honda's new VCells.

Yeah, Being able to travel the first 30 to 50 miles on all electric power alone is going to save millions of gallons of gasoline.

Another 10:
 1. Made of lightweight materials, hybrids are small in size. The engine is designed to be fuel efficient. When the car halts at a signal, the engine will automatically shut down and restart when the car shifts into gear.

 2. These cars have the advantage of being powered by a gasoline engine and an electric motor that takes care of acceleration.

 3. The batteries of the electric motor recharge automatically by harnessing the kinetic energy produced during braking.

 4. Hybrid car engines produce less emission, give better mileage, idle less, and are fuel efficient.

 5. The aerodynamic design reduces drag and the tires are made of a special rubber that reduces friction.

 6. The battery has high capacity and is made of nickel-metal-hydride. The battery can run the hybrid when called for.

 7. The power-train technology enables using two power sources and enhances fuel efficacy.

 8. There are many choices. You can have a hybrid from Honda, Ford, Toyota, GMC, and Chevrolet.

 9. If your transportation of choice is a hybrid then the US Government will applaud your choice by giving you significant tax breaks.

 10. Using a hybrid means you are active in ensuring the air is clean and that you are a concerned citizen who wishes to save fuel which is precious.

One thing I've found is that in some areas hybrids are overpriced, but in areas with less demand, the costs are lower. One way to buy a lower-priced hybrid is online, and then have the car shipped. This is one way to make them more affordable to more people while still helping the environment.

Hybrid vehicles are by far the most promising for fuel efficient and environmentally clean driving on the market today. Second vehicles are reasonably priced and as the market grows the price will reduce, however the purchase price is where the costs end. The weekly running is minimal, even when you consider driving 100 miles per day the cost is more than 70% down on the average fuel driven car. Some governments have in fact initiated their department staff to purchase Hybrids and their employees who elect to lease a vehicle, are encouraged to lease Hybrid sedans and wagons. I am saddened to read today that Ford are building the Mustang GT for release into the market in 2011. It is a 5.0l V8. This just does not compute as being environmentally conscious nor does Ford appear to consider the real needs of the consumer. It is another guzzler with capabilities of excessive speed .

Great article and a pretty substantial list of reasons to go green. At the end of the day I think that in 5-10 years we will all be using these hybrid cars so this is possibly the greatest reason to do it as stated in number 8.
I also agree with point 5 in that most of the popular manufacturers are making their new models hybrid so there is no longer the excuse that hybrid vehicles are not as cool as other cars, nowadays when you purchase a car you have the choice of a hybrid or not.
Some people will argue about performance issues but if a hybrid can save you money then its far better than being able to go a few miles per hour faster.

I agree, there are a huge number of great reasons to go green! Unfortunately the problem for many people is simply the price - and that won’t come down substantially for several years. The cost of servicing has come down, but people just don’t have the cash to buy a 'new' car most of the time. When secondhand hybrids start appearing, then the concept will really take off.

I agree with hydrogen. It seems no one wants to subsidize the infrastructure to get this done and a real renewable fuel.
