The smart car design really scares me. Sure, you get great gas mileage, and you can turn heads all over the city, but honestly? You get into an accident and you're dead. You would lose to a go-cart in that thing.

Hybrids are definitely on the right track but the premium you pay for the technology is still too high. I have a 94 honda civic and I get around 30-33 miles/gallon. Mind you, this car is 16 years old! Hybrid technology will evolve and improve. Until it comes in line with "regular" cars (or replaces them altogether), hybrids will not be the majority of cars on the road. Financial incentives far greater than what has been offered so far (tax credits a few years ago) could also tip the scales in the hybrids direction.
Another issue is the cost of repairs on the Hybrid. I doo not have one, so I have not experiencedthis first hand but I have been told that repairs are very expensive.
Just my 2 cents

Hybrid cars are all well and good, but there is a lack of hybrid vans and commercial vehicles. I would love to use a hybrid van, but there is very little choice for me, so I have to rely on diesel power

Out of all those cars the Civic is a best looking. don't like the look of most smart cars and hybrids and their "aerodynamic" engineering which causes them to look funny.

I almost got the civic hybrid but opted for the sporty civic 2dr instead. I get around 40 on the highway and 33-35 in town. I love the hondas.

I agree that the Civic Hybrid looks great. I've heard that it's got some great pep too. Nothing like a small, quick and efficient car.

Took me time to read all the comments, but I actually loved the article. It proved to be very useful to me and I am positive to all the commenters right here as well! It’s all the time nice when you can’t solely learn, but also entertained! I’m certain you had fun writing this blog.
